College Forever
“I so love the journey of college. I never want to graduate!” Said no one ever.
What if college had no degree plans? Why would anyone go?
College has a destination. You show up for classes. You focus. You study. You learn. You are tested. You earn a degree. You graduate. You celebrate.
You put your degree to work. You rock your skills. You create value. You become more valuable.
Are We There Yet?
Kids are great teachers. They are thinkers and inventors. They ask profound questions, such as: “Are we there yet?” Kids know destinations are important.
A destination gives you a reason to savor, appreciate, and enjoy the journey. It also gives you a sense of accomplishment and progress.
Destinations help you focus. They give the journey a meaning.
And when the journey is long, or rough, or both, they remind you there is a prize that awaits, if you keep going.
And when you arrive at your destination, you are rewarded with a sense of accomplishment, completion, and satisfaction — and maybe a story or two to tell.
Uncertainty breeds anxiety if you don’t know where you’re going. That’s why destination matters. Otherwise we become creators and collectors of unfinished things, or things we don’t want.
Start and finish, beginning and end, journey and destination, are wonderful couples. It’s the journey, and the destination, that matter.
Graduate
James on Success is my dream to work on for a lifetime. It’s my legacy. But I want you to graduate. I want you to move on (and up!). I want you to use what you've learned to gain results, and keep going.
My business is not to keep sharing ideas with no destination. My business is to help you graduate, and to help more, and more, people make progress on their dreams.
How Do You Graduate?
How do you graduate James on Success?
I put my best insights into my books. I sequence them as a plan. I add supplements if you want to go into more detail on a subject. And, I will keep improving/revising them until forever.
The books are still a work in progress, so you can’t graduate yet (LOL). But I’ll let you know when the core three (FOUNDER, BUILDER, MASTER) are close enough.
Finally
“The future belongs to the finishers.” -Jon Acuff
I found this idea to be quite profound.
Games end. Seasons end. Movies end. Even life ends. So create a destination with purpose and meaning, and enjoy the journey.
To your success!
PS
What happens after you finish the books? I am thinking about an alumni list for post graduation. More to come on this.
You don’t have to read 100+ articles on James on Success. Just read the books.
