What Is Design?
Design is a deliberate and thoughtful process of creating something for a specific purpose.
For example: A carpenter’s hammer is a simple tool designed for a specific purpose: to drive nails into wood, and to pull nails out of wood. It was designed to be durable, reliable, and light enough for everyday use. It has core features such as the grip, the hammer end to drive nails, and the claw end to remove nails.
There are many types of hammers, and all of them could be designed because they had a specific purpose.
Design is dependent on purpose. Without purpose, you can’t design. Without design, you cannot refine.
Better by Design
Nothing becomes better without design.
What is better?
Better is a measurement of improvement based on a specific design.
Good design is the deliberate, thoughtful process of crafting something that excels at its purpose.
We Are Designers
A good designer deliberately and thoughtfully crafts something that excels at its purpose.
As dream builders, we must actively design our lives in order to excel at our purpose. Through the process of designing, building and refining our dreams, we become better by design.
The most important part of design is getting the purpose right. Once you get the purpose right, you can iterate and refine.
Key Mindset: Nothing gets better without design. If you want a better life, then you have to design a better life. Better takes joyful work.
Key Skills: Envision a better life. Set goals that will improve your life in the short term and long term. Measure your progress towards your goals.
