Godzilla Awakes!
When I was a kid, I remember going to the Rialto theater to watch Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster (1972). I was never a big fan of Godzilla movies, but I did watch them from time to time.
Godzilla, a.k.a. the King of the Monsters, is “an enormous, destructive, prehistoric sea monster awakened and empowered by nuclear radiation.” Wikipedia
As far as this article is concerned, Godzilla is just a fun personification of things that can potentially derail the dream builder.
How to Wake Godzilla
It’s easy to wake Godzilla. 1) Believe in your dream, 2) Pursue your dream, 3) Ahhh, Godzilla! (See, that was easy.)
The moment we proclaim “I have a dream,” and begin to work earnestly, Godzilla appears from out of nowhere, shakes his head, makes Godzilla noises, spews smoke and fire, and slaps that dream from your hand.
One of the most common tactics Godzilla uses is “Dreams don’t pay the rent.”
The Job vs. The Dream
We tend to believe the notion that dreams are in conflict with reality. Dreams are for the lucky few. But there is no conflict.
Who wrote on stone tablets that a dream must pay the rent and put your kids through college? Nobody. That’s just stuff people say.
The purpose of a dream is not to pay the rent, feed the stomach, or raise a family. A dream exists to feed the heart. As it is said: "Man does not live by bread alone." A dream is about the power of living a full life. Dreams come from the heart. The heart is the spring of life.
There is no conflict between having a job and pursuing a dream. Both have their own purposes. In fact, a job is a dream enabler. A job and a dream are allies.
But don't rule out the possibility that a dream that reaches a level of maturity can very well make one wealthy in many ways.
Radiate
Life is more than a pulse. Life is expression. A reflection of who we are. A continuous unfolding and revealing. Like stars in the heavens. We radiate the one-of-a-kind creation we are.
We don't have to shape the world into our image. That leads to frustration. All we have to do is express our image. If we pursue our dreams, big or small, we are being true to ourselves.
Note: When I came up with the heading for this section “Radiate,” I didn’t realize that “radiation” is what wakes and attracts Godzilla. How funny! Actually, I’ve been contemplating the word “radiate” since recently hearing “Dig a Pony,” by The Beatles. I love the word play of that song.
Finally
It is a powerful experience for any human being to be able to say “I am doing what I believe in. I am living my dream.” And, aren’t we living our dream the moment we choose to pursue it?
The purpose of a dream is not to pay the bills, but feed the heart. The purpose of a dream is to transform us.
May your heart be filled with all that is good and become a flowing river of life.
To your success!
P.S. It seems that over time Godzilla became a protector and defender of mankind. Funny how that works.
