Are We There Yet?
A dream can be a long and difficult journey. Our “why” becomes vague. Our purpose fades. We slowly lose focus.
There is a belief that if we make a choice, the matter is settled. However, in my experience, purpose, clarity and commitment fade each day. Like a rocket with a fuel leak, we come to a halt instead of flying to our destination.
One simple practice can keep us flying so we can make good progress each day.
We Can't Rely on Habits
Habits are very helpful for establishing a daily routine. Scheduling a time for working on your dream increases the likelihood that it will happen. It also removes the chore of deciding when to start each day.
Habits are good, but they aren’t commitments.
We Can't Rely on Why
Creating a powerful "why" is crucial for long-term success. If our why isn't powerful enough, we will soon give up when the ride gets rough. We will start to question our sanity. Why am I doing this? Is it worth it? Is there something better I can do with my life? Am I wasting my time? Does anyone care? Do I care? These questions will hit hard and often. The inner debate will stop all progress.
Having a powerful "why" is good, but the days have a way of tempting us to spend our time on other things that insist on our attention.
Eliminate the Debate
We can't live today on choices we made yesterday. Each day is a new day. This is not just a pithy saying. This is reality. Because most change happens slowly, we don't notice a difference from one day to the next. We don’t notice we are drifting off course.
I keep a daily journal. I recently added a new practice of writing "I choose to continue."
By making a choice to continue each day, it removes the debates. It plugs the holes in the fuel tank. You can focus on the target and reach your destination. Well done!
Today I choose to work towards my goal. I have spoken.
When it’s time to create, eliminate the debate. Do not begin until you commit.
Finally
If we still believe in our why and our dream, then we can make a choice, each day, to continue.
Making a choice each day removes the debates.
To your success!
What is your dream?
My dream is to write small but powerful books that simplify success, and plant them like seeds.
My first book is "How to Build a Foundation for your Dreams." You can read it FREE at www.jamesonsuccess.com/books.
